Pirates Week Dart Tournament

The CIDA will once again be holding the annual Pirates Week Dart tournament. All are invited to attend, and it promises to be a day filled with ample entertainment and fierce competition.

The venue will be The Corner Pocket Bar & Lounge, and the event is generously sponsored by Budweiser & Cayman Distributors Ltd.

The tournament takes place on Sunday, November 22nd 2009, and registration is at 12:00noon. Play will begin promptly at 1:00pm.

CIDA AGM

The Cayman Islands Darts Association will hold its Annual General Meeting this Saturday, September 5th 2009, at 7:00 pm.

The meeting will be hosted at the Corner Pocket, Alissta Towers, and light refreshments will be provided.

All members are asked to attend, as there will be several important matters on the agenda.

Pirates Week Results

This past Sunday afternoon Thirty-two of the islands’ top dart players turned out to participate in the Annual Pirates’ Week Dart tournament. There was fierce competition all afternoon, as everyone pressed their own limits in a bid to emerge the day’s champion.
The tournament games were of the popular “Mickey Mouse” format, where players attempt to land three consecutive darts on the portions of the dart-board allocated to the values 20, 19, 18… 13, 12 and Bull’s-eye, in order to be first to close-out that particular number. Points of the same value can be scored against one’s opponent whilst they still haven’t closed-out a particular number, and the player finishing all of their numbers first, and also having the highest numerical score wins the leg. Players vied for the best of three legs to win their game, and there were both singles and doubles competitions during the tournament. Attractive cash prizes and plaques were awarded to the top players, and there were also other surprise giveaways during the evening.

In the end, Cliff Weeks who displayed unstoppable form all day long, defeated the reigning Caribbean champion Edsel Haylock in the singles event final, and took the top honours of the tournament.
In the doubles event, Cliff and Rodan Asuncion revived their successful partnership which won them second-place in Trinidad at the 2008 Caribbean Cup Championship, and trumped the competition to secure first-place.

The Cayman Islands Darts Association wishes to extend special thanks to Gina Kettnar, Kevin Paschke and the rest of the staff at Cayman Distributors, suppliers of Red Stripe Beer, who sponsored the tournament. Their time, generous donations and efforts greatly influenced the event’s overall success.
More special thanks go out to the Pirates’ Week committee for their support of the competition, and allowing it to be a part of the Pirates’ Week celebrations.
We would also like to thank Stanley Walton, and the staff of Jillian’s Billiard Lounge & Bar, for allowing us use of their venue, and providing excellent service throughout the day’s activities. Last years winners were Frank Martyr in the singles event, and CIDA committee president Arthur Ebanks and Celso O’Campo in the doubles event.

The CIDA thanks all of the participants without whom the event could not have been such a resounding success, and especially acknowledges Matthew Yates of the Caymanian Compass, who was on-hand to take photos and cover the tournament for their newspaper.
